We spent the afternoon around Alam Sutera today because my eldest had a hangout date with a friend. While dropping her off, I sneaked in a quick errand to Vintage Vibes Broadway to drop some preloved items. I’ve been consigning there for years now. It’s almost a ritual. End of year equals decluttering season. Sorting through things forces me to ask honest questions. Do I still need this or is it ready to have a new life with someone else. Some items get sold, some get donated, and somehow my head always feels lighter along with the shelves.
While waiting, the youngest sat with daddy, wrestling numbers and fractions like a true year end plot twist. Math lessons in public spaces have their own soundtrack. Scribbling, deep sighs, and occasional I think I get it now followed by wait no I don’t. All that while sitting in front of coffee shop, ordered their signature coffee and tea, and our daughter bought iced chocolate from the shop next door.
When the hangout was done, we decided to walk for dinner. We ended up at Makan Lo Deh. Simple local food, warm and comforting. Ten thousand rupiah for rice plus unlimited veggie soup. Lodeh, sop, asem, choose your fighter and refill freely. Extra lauk costs more, but still ridiculously affordable. Four of us ate until full, drinks included, and paid only ninety thousand. I repeat. Four people. Full stomachs. Ninety thousand.
After dinner, we didn’t rush home. We stayed there a bit longer, just the four of us, talking about random things. Somehow the conversation drifted to the births of our eldest and youngest. How wildly different they were, even from day one. We laughed remembering how the youngest was so calm, so chill, like a baby who came with an inner peace subscription. Contrast to the eldest: high alert, high drama, high volume.
Funny how time works. Back then, in the thick of sleep deprivation and chaos, there was a lot of muttering and silent complaining. But now, years later, we can laugh about it freely, until our stomachs hurt. Same stories, different emotions 😊
We went home and received a hampers from my lovely friend Mbak Ike. Fancy serene.co.id kind of hampers. The kind that makes you pause before opening because everything looks too pretty. Inside were a night lamp, a mini tumbler, a teddy bear, room fragrance, chocolates, tea, cookies, and caramel popcorn. Basically joy in a box. I actually said wow out loud. Thank you so much!
