I woke up today feeling a bit lowbat. Low energy, low spirit, mildly moody for no clear reason. Maybe the gloomy weather had something to do with it. Or maybe it was just one of those days where your soul hasn’t had coffee yet. Who knows. What I do know is that I took my usual long stay in the bathroom, fully convinced everyone would’ve eaten brunch without me. Turns out, they were waiting. Apparently, I was still part of the plan.
We had church at 11:45, so we left the house at 10:30. It was our last service of the year, doubled as a Christmas celebration. The church team deserves a long break too, obviously. God rested on the seventh day, so surely church volunteers can rest at the end of the year.
The sermon was titled Knowing God Through Jesus. And somehow, it landed right where it needed to. That reminder from Colossians about the fullness of God dwelling in Christ, about Jesus being the visible image of the invisible God. It felt grounding. Like someone gently cleaning the fog off a window I didn’t realize had gone blurry.
One phrase stayed with me: When God became visible, love became personal.
Because He became human, He knows exactly what we feel. Because He is God, He lived perfectly on our behalf. Because He is God, death couldn’t hold Him. Life can be confusing. Life can be lonely. Believe in Jesus. God wants to be known. Not guessed. Not assumed. Known.
Also, practical note from today’s service: someone near me was chewing gum very enthusiastically. The kind that comes with sound effects. I eventually put on my earphones, not for worship ambience, but for survival. Grace has limits.
After church, we did what any respectable family does on a Sunday: we hunted for snacks. Gorengan in front of Hotel Amaris, then straight to QBIG. The main agenda was Chatime and the giant SpongeBob installation. Photos were taken. Laughter happened. My youngest bought giant cotton candy for fifteen thousand rupiah, which we then shared like a communal ritual.
At Chatime, my husband and eldest ordered their drinks, the youngest went for a corndog. While I prefer to order something from employees canteen right next to the parking lot. Found nasi Padang glory for seventeen thousand rupiah. Rice, vegetables, sambal, grilled chicken. Cheap, complete, delicious. I took it home proudly.
Right after we landed home, I ate and got very full. I fell asleep immediately. Woke up, ate again, this time together as a family. In the evening, a hampers arrived from Satusolusi, our tax consultants. A sweet, thoughtful surprise to close the day.
