After two days of forced rest because of a stubborn headache, today I was officially back on track. Or at least trying to be. The calendar was full and life clearly did not get the memo that I had just been sick.
First agenda started early. At 9.30 we headed to Depok to drop my mom at my sister’s house. She was going to accompany my youngest nephew who would otherwise be home alone while his mom was on a work trip to Surabaya. When we arrived, he was not alone at all. My younger sibling, her husband, and their child had arrived thirty minutes earlier.
We had another reason to meet there. I had ordered ready to cook marinated food to support my sibling’s brand new business. After years of encouragement, mild pressure, and enthusiastic pep talks, she finally started. My husband and I were ridiculously excited. Supporting family's business feels extra personal. We stayed until around 12.30, talking, advising, and imagining this small business growing bigger and braver.
Agenda number two started at 13.00. We arrived at our new apartment for the official handover process. Keys. Access cards. Signatures. Explanations. What was supposed to take one hour quietly stretched into two. Rules, facilities, settings for electricity, water, stove, and a long list of things that still needed fixing. And then it hit me. This is it. The penthouse is really ours now. Still not fully furnished until next month, but undeniably ours. A two storey unit with massive windows opening up to a mountain view. Wow.
There was a tiny "surprise" tho. Fixed costs that apparently come as a package with apartment living. Parking fees even for the first car. Minimum charges for electricity and water. Facility usage fees. The kind of surprises you only fully understand once you sit there nodding while calculating in your head. Funny thing is, we once promised ourselves not to add another apartment. And yet here we are. Ironically because it turned out economically beneficial than renting. Plus: free tax, free DP, and free IPL too!
Agenda number three was supposed to be at 14.00 but shifted to 15.00. I was back in my unofficial role as matchmaker. This time introducing the founder and team of Cleansheet to the marketing manager of our new apartment. The hope is simple. A collaboration that benefits everyone. Imagine new buyers getting free unit cleaning for a year. Or current residents getting a complimentary trial. Fingers crossed this partnership flows smoothly.
I assumed the meeting would be in one of the apartment meeting rooms. Instead, we ended up snacking in the mall. A pleasant surprise. Another thing I was grateful for is the fact that the manager was actually on leave since Monday, but came in on Wednesday just to keep the appointment with us. That kind of professionalism deserves a sincere thank you.
After that, we stopped by an optical store because my child wanted to do a free eye check. Honestly, so did I. Since the results did not change much, we decided to postpone buying new glasses. Then we finally went home. Dinner was simple and warm, prepared by our youngest. The four of us around the table again.
After eating, I opened my laptop to write this blog. My husband chose to rest by playing sudoku. Again. I laughed watching him. His idea of resting involves intense thinking. But then again, everyone rests differently. Writing is my kind of relaxation. Thinking with words instead of numbers.
