Family bonding at Press Print Party Jakarta, a staycation, unexpected reunions, jacuzzi and discount hunt.
Today, the entire squad, i.e. our family, accompanied my eldest to Press Print Party in Fatmawati.
If you haven’t heard of it, Press Print Party (PPP) is this charming annual art-and-print book fair held at The Brickhall, Fatmawati City Center. This year, it ran from 7 to 9 November 2025. Think risograph prints, zines, tiny booths packed with passion projects, and people who somehow look artsy.
We were browsing like typical supportive parents, when someone suddenly approached us.
“Kompak banget nih sekeluarga,” he said.
I blinked. My brain tried to load the face like an old laptop. And then it hit me. Erik Sjaropie! Our long-time buddy since the 2010 StartupLokal era. He used to come to our meetups, and since he works in HAKI, we often consulted him about IP matters for our startups.
We ended up talking for quite a while about art, HAKI, intellectual property, the creative world. Turns out Erik has a gazillion connections and stories in the art scene. Perfect timing too, because my daughter is deep into the art world and needed exactly this type of insight. Bonus: my daughter sketched Erik on site in less than 5 minutes!
We stayed while waiting for the rain to stop and grabbed a late lunch at the food bazaar.
And here comes my favorite comedy scene of the day.
My husband offered my daughter some of his food. She leaned forward, mouth wide open like a baby bird ready to be fed. Then, with the reflexes of a man who forgets he has a family, my husband lifted the spoon… straight into his own mouth.
I burst out laughing. My daughter, offended but creative, immediately opened her sketchbook and started sketching the entire scene as a cartoon 😂
After PPP, we headed to Southgate Residence, only fifteen minutes away. We were invited for a free staycation in their penthouse boutique unit to try out all the facilities.
The check-in process was smooth, thanks to Mbak Syifa, the marketing person who had been coordinating with us. One hour later, every single person in the room knocked out like we were enchanted. I guess rain, carbs, and cozy penthouse that to people. The plan to explore all facilities? Gone. Surrendered. Lost to the softness of pillows.
By the time we woke up, everyone was starving. So we walked down to AEON for dinner. We picked Chadol Gujeolpan, simply because of a TikTok discount voucher (shoutout to Mba Iim for the tips!). Once we arrived, there's a giant banner promoting special price for Scorpios. My daughter is a Scorpio. The universe, once again, said: “Treat yourself, child.”
And wow, it was fun. They cooked everything right in front of us, not like Korean BBQ where we do the cooking and end up smelling like grilled beef for the next 12 hours. This one felt like a mini performance. We just sat, talked, and got served. And the price is only ninety-nine thousand for four!
After dinner, we went back up and tried the warm whirlpool jacuzzi. Bliss. The view was open, the evening lights looked dreamy. My eldest even tried the sauna. I didn't, because I couldn't stand the thin air.
Back in the room, guess what? Hunger returned.
So yes, we marched back to AEON for Dinner: The Sequel. This time at Gokana Ramen Teppan, again powered by TikTok discounts. Triple set for only 110k for three people. At this point I felt like we were winning some invisible game.
We wandered around a bit more because hubby suddenly wanted coffee. And AEON at 22:00 is still super lively. The supermarket was full, even though the mall itself was closing. When we tried to go back via the usual lift, it was already shut down for the night. So we took the outside access lift like some kind of lost backstage crew.
Because everyone had napped too long earlier, bedtime happened way later than expected. But it’s the weekend, so who cares? The kids retreated for their own me-time, and we all ended the day peacefully.
