Confessions from the Toilet
When I finally emerged from my porcelain office, I was greeted with a scene straight out of a feel-good movie. My husband had set up a whole dining table full of food: a fresh salad, crispy chicken egg rolls, and the pièce de résistance: udang saus mentega that was so delicious, I nearly teared up. My eldest and I even gave him a little round of applause. A supportive spouse who can cook? I mean, I thought I must have hit the jackpot, right?
But wait. The twist.
I noticed red and green specks in the butter prawn... paprika? We didn’t have any paprika in stock. Suspicious. So I asked him where he got the ingredients, and that’s when the truth came out: the dish was actually frozen udang saus mentega from Titipku! He didn’t peel a single prawn. Didn’t sauté a single clove of garlic. All that talk about prepping from scratch? Just jokes 😅
Post-lunch, dropped the eldest at campus, swung by the hospital to pick up some meds I forgot yesterday, and then squeezed in a movie before it's gone: The Naked Gun. It was chaotic, odd, and full of nonsense. But somewhere between the exaggerated slapstick and the cold cinema air, I managed to catch a much-needed nap. So… worth it?
By evening, it was my turn to cook. I turned on my JBL speaker and played an episode of Michelle Obama’s podcast while prepping dinner. She talked about her “kitchen table,” and I found myself nodding along, thinking about how much life happens around our own table (in our case, the dining table). I didn’t go full gourmet, though. I stuck with another frozen gem from Titipku: sate ayam. Into my retro mini oven they went, and wow! Juicy, spicy, and so easy. Low effort, high satisfaction. A solid win.
The day wrapped up like it usually does: dinner, clean up, and some chill time with hubby. We watched Summer of '69, which was… strange, to say the least. But after that afternoon’s movie experience, this one actually felt kinda tame. Funny how your standards shift after two odd films in one day.
So yeah, not the most glamorous Wednesday. But it was real, weird, honest. And somehow kind of perfect. From frustrating bathroom sagas to surprisingly satisfying frozen meals, from naps in dark theaters to small reflections over podcast chatter. These chaotic, unfiltered moments are what stitch together the life I wouldn’t trade.
If your day feels disjointed, messy, or just plain bizarre: welcome to the club! Life doesn’t always come with a polished caption. But if we pause long enough, we’ll find the grace tucked quietly inside the interruptions.
With love, butter prawn dreams, and easy chicken satay,
Nuniek
