Confessions from the Toilet

You know it’s going to be one of those days when it starts with an epic semedi session in the bathroom due to constipation. Not once, but twice. Picture this: I was stuck in the toilet from midnight until 1:30 AM (yes, you read that right), and then again from 9 to 11 in the morning. But here’s the weird silver lining: I actually got a surprising amount of work done in there. Who knew the toilet could double as a productivity pod?

When I finally emerged from my porcelain office, I was greeted with a scene straight out of a feel-good movie. My husband had set up a whole dining table full of food: a fresh salad, crispy chicken egg rolls, and the pièce de résistance: udang saus mentega that was so delicious, I nearly teared up. My eldest and I even gave him a little round of applause. A supportive spouse who can cook? I mean, I thought I must have hit the jackpot, right?

But wait. The twist.

I noticed red and green specks in the butter prawn... paprika? We didn’t have any paprika in stock. Suspicious. So I asked him where he got the ingredients, and that’s when the truth came out: the dish was actually frozen udang saus mentega from Titipku! He didn’t peel a single prawn. Didn’t sauté a single clove of garlic. All that talk about prepping from scratch? Just jokes 😅

But honestly, I couldn’t even be mad. He did warm it up in my brand new ceramic-coated pot like a champ. And hey, effort is effort. Sometimes showing up means hitting “defrost,” and that’s okay :D

Post-lunch, dropped the eldest at campus, swung by the hospital to pick up some meds I forgot yesterday, and then squeezed in a movie before it's gone: The Naked Gun. It was chaotic, odd, and full of nonsense. But somewhere between the exaggerated slapstick and the cold cinema air, I managed to catch a much-needed nap. So… worth it?

By evening, it was my turn to cook. I turned on my JBL speaker and played an episode of Michelle Obama’s podcast while prepping dinner. She talked about her “kitchen table,” and I found myself nodding along, thinking about how much life happens around our own table (in our case, the dining table). I didn’t go full gourmet, though. I stuck with another frozen gem from Titipku: sate ayam. Into my retro mini oven they went, and wow! Juicy, spicy, and so easy. Low effort, high satisfaction. A solid win.

The day wrapped up like it usually does: dinner, clean up, and some chill time with hubby. We watched Summer of '69, which was… strange, to say the least. But after that afternoon’s movie experience, this one actually felt kinda tame. Funny how your standards shift after two odd films in one day.

So yeah, not the most glamorous Wednesday. But it was real, weird, honest. And somehow kind of perfect. From frustrating bathroom sagas to surprisingly satisfying frozen meals, from naps in dark theaters to small reflections over podcast chatter. These chaotic, unfiltered moments are what stitch together the life I wouldn’t trade.

If your day feels disjointed, messy, or just plain bizarre: welcome to the club! Life doesn’t always come with a polished caption. But if we pause long enough, we’ll find the grace tucked quietly inside the interruptions.

With love, butter prawn dreams, and easy chicken satay,

Nuniek

What I Learned from Timothy Tiah - Founder of Nuffnang

Last Sunday when I entered VIP room at JWEF , I was introduced to this guy with his mini version boy on his lap, and his pretty wife with white top and red skirt. We had chit chat and he told me he’d be in Jakarta this Tuesday, and I told him that we’d have 57th #Startuplokal Monthly Meetup on Tuesday night.  To be really honest, only a very few did I know about him until he shared his amazing story on JWEF stage a few minutes later, and get inspired that I took note and now share this with you all.  Timothy Tiah founded Nuffnang with Cheo Ming Shen at 2006 when he was 22 years old, with 150k RM startup capital, partly borrowed from his father. He simply founded it because there’s nobody built it before, while the demand was actually there. The site was launched in February 2007. Sales ≠ cashflow On earlier years, although Nuffnang sales highrocketed, the cashflow was poor. At one point he only has 5k left in bank, while there were invoices need to be paid out urgently. He came to Hon...

Saya bilang sabar, tunggu tanggal mainnya. Tapi sebelum saya jawab pertanyaan itu, saya mau mengenang masa muda dulu ah..  Jadi begini cucuku... Waktu pertama kali ngeblog 15 tahun lalu , usia saya masih 21 (yak silakan dihitung usia saya sekarang berapa, pinterrrr). Jadi jangan heran kalo gaya bahasanya masih 4I_aY 4b3zzz.. (eh ga separah itu juga sih, hehe). Tapi ekspresi nulisku di masa-masa itu masih pure banget, nyaris tanpa filter. Jadi kalo dibaca lagi sampai sekarang pun masih berasa seru sendiri. Kayak lagi nonton film dokumenter pribadi. Kadang bikin ketawa ketiwi sendiri, kadang bikin mikir, kadang bi...

The Waiting Room of Life

There are few things in life that test our character more than waiting. Not the kind of waiting where you’re stuck in traffic with your favorite playlist on, but the heavy kind; waiting without certainty. The waiting that weighs on you because you don’t know if it will end tomorrow, next month, or next year. I’ve been thinking a lot about this today because something big just wrapped up. A long-awaited promise was finally fulfilled. And in the process, I witnessed firsthand how differently people behave when placed in the uncomfortable chair of “ the waiting room of life. ” Imagine a waiting room where everyone has been told their name will be called someday, maybe soon, maybe late. You’d see at least two kinds of people. Some people sit quietly, open a book, maybe start a new project on the side while glancing occasionally at the clock. They don’t need to narrate their suffering to the entire room.  They choose dignity over drama.  They know that patience doesn’t have to be ...
