Saturday morning, hubby drove me all the way to BSD Plaza this morning for one specific mission: a waxing session at Luv Wax Studio. You might wonder why I’d travel that far when Jakarta is packed with options, but in my experience, they truly have the most painless, quick, clean, and ridiculously affordable Brazilian wax in town. Worth every kilometer!
While I was getting waxed, my husband popped into the barbershop right across from the studio. By the time I finished, he was still in the chair. I even had time to go shop for new underwear, and when I came back, he still wasn't done, he was casually getting his hair washed!
To pass the time, I wandered into a local thrift shop, and oh boy, did I hit the jackpot. I found three super cute, perfectly-fitting dresses for less than 100,000 IDR total. To put that in perspective, my five pairs of new underwear cost 300,000 IDR! Hilarious contrast, but a win is a win.
Once we both wrapped up, we reunited at the food court. Naturally, I went straight for the Palembang restaurant and ordered the pindang patin alongside a refreshing red-and-white dragonfruit and soursop juice. Everything was delicious and cheap. Honestly, this mall food court pricing feels more like a budget-friendly employee cafeteria.
On our way out of BSD Plaza, we stopped by a stall to grab some steamed buns (bakpao) in various flavors. At just 3,500 IDR a piece, we bought 10 to share around.
From there, we drove straight to the airport to pick up my mom, who was arriving from Bangka Island. I slept like a baby the entire drive, waking up just as we arrived. When we crossed the street, she walked out the exit gates with her trolley. The bakpao turned out to be a total lifesaver because Mom hadn't had lunch yet and couldn't find a Roti O spot at the terminal, so the buns hit the spot.
Next stop: Depok! We drove about an hour to drop Mom off at my sister’s place so she could visit her grandchild, who was just discharged from the hospital after battling dengue fever. Soon as we arrived there, I grabbed Nasi Padang rendang for Mom, some lele fishes for my sister, plus takeout for our family for dinner. The total bill? A mere 88,000 IDR.
We headed back around 4:00 PM and were back at our apartment by 5:00 PM. I immediately rushed down to the poolside bench to catch some light and read before sunset. I made it just in time!
Back inside, we dug into the Padang dinner, which was plated and set up by my youngest daughter. And to top off an already packed day, she surprised me with a gorgeous bouquet of purple flowers for my birthday tomorrow! So sweet... the absolute best end to a wonderful, whirlwind day.
