I have the urge to capture this day with words.
This morning was freakin’ windy cold outside our daughter’s dorm and she didn’t answer our calls.
When she finally did, we had to rush to catch the bus because the next one would be too late.
We arrived at the church on time, me with low expectations judging by how empty the lounge was.
Turns out, the mass was in the auditorium on the third floor. A tall, kind guy led us there.
Still, my first impression was it feels emptier compared to our megachurch back in Jakarta.
As soon as my hip hit the chair, I closed my eyes to pray and thank God for bringing us this far.
“No camera recording allowed here”, my daughter whispered to me while I was still praying.
I opened my eyes and observed: a small stage, dozens of chairs, some people chatted around.
And then the gentleman in a suit and his wife in fashionable dress came and introduced themselves
We thought, oh, he must be the priest and his wife, doing their nice job to greet people around.
But then came more gentlemen, and women, one by one came to personally greet & welcome us!
One of them even connected my daughter to the leader of student committee of this church.
“Menyenangkan”, my daughter whispered again. Thing she never said in any church before 😅
Shortly after, we started to sing the gospel songs. And then the thing I never expected happened.
After some songs, they played Goodness of God. My daughter whispered, “Oh, this song”.
It was her HS graduation song and special for me too because we sang it together on roadtrip.
Since the first lyrics:
I love You, Lord
Oh, Your mercy never failed me
And all my days, I've been held in Your hands
I already felt the goosebumps.
Then went to the next:
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
I felt it even stronger
And here comes the chorus:
All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
I burst into tears ðŸ˜
And finally, the refrain:
Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
With my life laid down, I'm SURRENDERED now
I give You EVERYTHING
'Cause Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
I sobbed like a baby ðŸ˜
Remembering our long journey to get here with its ups and downs, and finally everything’s settled.
Sending our daughter off to live abroad on her own for the first time, >7k miles away from home.
The words “SURRENDERED now” and “give You EVERYTHING” now hits differently, because it means:
I surrendered my control, anxiety, doubts, fear, uncertainty, and any uncomfortable feelings inside.
I give God everything including our daughter and her future to be always in His hand only.
Tomorrow she’s gonna start the orientation day in her university and sure she’s gonna be busy.
The day after tomorrow I’ll be flying 20 hours in the air plus 2.5 hours transit to get back home…
Back to the church’s situation, we had a session where we hold hands and pray for one another.
It was beautiful.
Then came a break, where we are welcome to mingle and enjoy snacks, cookies, tea, coffee, juice
Another gentleman who seems like the church activist came to say hi and introduced himself.
He then said something like:
“I know there’s a lot of options but if somehow your daughter chooses this church, feel free to contact us anytime as a family.”
It feels so comforting for me.
There's a book in the corner where we can write testimony of healing and answered prayers, and of course I wrote that down too.
I went back to my seat, and my daughter was still chatting with her new friends in student area.
When she finally came back because the sermon was about to start, she made her decision:
“I think I’m going to stay here.”
It feels even more comforting 💕
After the sermon, she joined the student committee group for lunch and games for 3 hours!
While my husband and I were enjoying lamb shawarma on chips together for just £6,5
Back to two of us again.
