#StartupLokal MeetUp v.4 : Communication

There are so many potential startups in Indonesia, but why only a few of them got exposure from media? This question has brought us a topic for #StartupLokal MeetUp v.4: Communication. As usual, the meet up is held on the first Thursday of the month, i.e. 5th of August 2010.

There were 3 competent speakers give insight to us about the topic:

1.       Rene Suhardono, career coach, writer of Your Job is NOT Your Career

“Being an entrepreneur nowadays is like being a soldier in 1970’s or banker in 1990’s, everybody wants to be it. Doesn’t matter what you chose, whether being an entrepreneur or an employee, the most important thing is that you find your passion and live with it.”

2.       Waizly Darwin, The Marketeers

“Hitching a famous brand / product / community is the best way to get well known by others.”

3.       Silih Agung Wasesa from AsiaPR, writer of Strategi Public Relations

“How to create your exchange product’s launch:  1. Analyze your brand value to adapt with target market’s desire, 2. Creating content for conversations & participation. 3. Creating valuable struff that people want to be part of & share. 4. Building direct relationship. 5. Combining online + offline, make conversation from it. 6. Remember to evaluate & measure.”

Next session was startups pitch by:

1.       Kayakarya.com by Jeannie Tan

2.       Web Dev Academy by Chandra Marsono

The last session was presentations of 3 interesting programs that supports local startups :

1.       Fellowship Telkom Indigo by Zaki

2.       SparxUp Awards by Rama Mamuaya

3.       SwaStartup by Natali Ardianto

At this event, I still took part as an amateur MC (I better take an MC class, I guess ^_^) with partner in crime Novrizal Pratama. I bribe Ollie a few hours before the event to be a moderator and yes, she did a good job ^_^v. I also take my younger sister to be the receptionist, with sweet promise that most participants are smart and some are cute *stare at those Prasetiya Mulya student hohoho ^_^

I on behalf of #StartupLokal initiators should say thanks so much to TRG who has generously fully supported this event;  especially to Novrizal & Putri who have been busier than us in preparing everything. The venue, Sriti Ballroom Wisma Kosgoro was cozy & just fit perfectly with the crowd (not too spacious nor too confined).

The meal from Klenger Burger was delicious too that some participants says awesome and thought it’s Burger King!

And oh, we got 2 projectors, one for presentation slides, the other is for livetweet #StartupLokal using visibletweets.com !

Thanks a billion to all the speakers who are willing to enlighten us. Usually, people had to pay hundreds or even millions rupiah to participate in their talkshow / seminar. But this time, it’s all free! On behalf of all participants, please accept our gratitude on your generous participation in #StartupLokal MeetUp =)

And the crowd, oh how I loved it. From the online registration system made by Tista from Urbanesia combined with bizcards I got, there were 147 participants! Not to mention those who didn’t register nor dropped name cards. Had only it was not raining hard that night, I believe the amount would be even more. We feel honored that there were 3 Google people came from 3 different divisions and participated in the event (local, adwords strategist, and Head of syndication & partnership SEA). And yes, thanks to all of you who came and enjoyed this “geek socialite” event! (As mentioned by LUNNOtheband on twitter, haha)

Ok guys, see you on the next #StartupLokal Meetup on 2nd September 2010! Follow @startuplokal , join mailinglist #StartupLokal and be the fan of #Startuplokal on FB!

PS : Sorry I didn’t get many pics on the event, let’s wait from the volunteer photographers =)
