Indonesia Local Start-Ups Meet Up

Last night, Thursday 6 May 2010 at Starbucks FX,  31 people from web & social media gathered discussing about Indonesia local startups. The event initiated by Natali Ardianto was initially intended to follow up the accidental meet-up between him and Rama from Daily Social, Sani Gaddafi from Fupei, and Dondi Hananto last April 14th at the same place. As words spread fast in twitter, it was beyond our expectation that many great people participated with enthusiasm.

After opening words from Natali Ardianto as an initiator, Danny Oei from Kaskus & Semut Api Colony gives us insights about SparxUp Award 2010. It is basically a competition with seven categories, three winners will be selected and invited to seminars & roadshow to seven cities. Best of the best will be mentored and awarded with IDR 500,000,000.

Danny about SparxUp 2010

There are four main purposes of the competition:

1.       Motivation

A great idea without execution is only an idea. People need motivation to make it happen. And this competition is here to bring it on.

2.       Appreciation

There are many great local start-ups in Indonesia come up with fantastic products. But not many of them survive due to limited capital & resource. While in fact, nowadays many digital companies are looking for startups, such as Detik, East Venture, Yahoo, Rakuten, etc. In the opposite, rumor has it that giant International digital companies are exploring the possibility to lunge Indonesia. If the local start-ups are not united, then we will be crushed. Having money is a good thing, but it’s not all about the money. It’s the synergy that’s most important.

3.       Highlight

With great media partners such as Detik, Kaskus, Yahoo, many local start-ups will be highlighted. The more people exposed to digital, the more people coming into start-ups. Thus digital economy can be rotating.

4.       Inspiration

After got highlight, people will spend, and believe in digital technology. And this will create inspiration for others.

What are the qualifications of local start-ups ?

Rama simplify it as :

-          Owned by Indonesian of course

-          Been running for less than 3 years

-          Having maximum 20 employees

-          Annual revenue below 1 billion IDR

Does your business match the criteria above? Then be prepared for SparxUp 2010, and be sure to keep an eye to DailySocial.

Danny has to leave earlier right after. We continue by introducing ourselves, business and ideas. Even after the group discussion was over, we still stick and discuss in smaller groups up to 11pm. There are many, I repeat many, brilliant ideas come from brilliant minds at this #StartUpLokal gathering. We really hope that this could be a regular event once in a month.
